In 1969, while attending Philadelphia College of Art, I noticed a sapling pushing its way up through the pavement and I realized that nature's spirit could not be contained, even when paved over. I devoted my life's work to the pursuit of this spirit.

Looking back, I realize that I have always been an environmentalist in the truest sense of the word. It is my hope that this body of work speaks to the eternal spirit of nature and mankind's intimate place within it.
